The Mid Year Book Freakout Tag

Wow, can you all believe that it is already the middle of the year?!! 🀯 I’ve seen this tag floating around and I thought it would be fun to do it as well. I don’t know who started it but if you do know, let me know so I can acknowledge them. Let’s get to it!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2019

Omg I’ve read some pretty good one’s this year and I think I may have to list two for this question because it’s just too hard to choose!

I think I gushed enough about this book in my smutathon wrap-up post. If you want to know about why I loved this, check it out here.

I definitely jumped on the hype train with this one, and I love this book to pieces.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019

This is hands down the best sequel I’ve read this year. I loved this book! I was enthralled from the very beginning. Stephanie Garber’s way with words and descriptions had me entranced. I love the atmosphere in this book. I love the characters and the story.

New release you haven’t read but want to

I’ve already talked about this one as well in my post Six for Sunday: 2019 books I’m excited for. So, if you want to click over there and see what I have to say about this one and it’s synopsis then go ahead and do that.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

I think I’m going to have to go with The Bromance Book Club.

For one, this is set in my hometown of, Nashville, Tennessee. I never come across books that are set in Nashville so I’m sooo excited for that! Also, basically, Sarah’s review sums up what this book is about, “A book about a bunch of guys creating a book club to read romance as they try to understand their wives better? Oh this is going to be hilarious!”

I think this is going to be really sweet and funny and I can not wait to read it!

Biggest Disappointment

Honestly, it was Girls of Paper and Fire, and let me tell you, I want to love this sooo much. This book has gotten so much hype from literally everyone but it just didn’t do it for me and I’m still sad about it. I can appreciate what it was trying to do but, again, I didn’t like it.

Biggest surprise

I think I’m going to have to go with Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee. I had heard some kind of not so good reviews about this one, by some pretty popular booktube folks and a couple of other reviewers that I follow, but this turned out to be a five star for me. I loved this one!

Favorite new author

Thea De Salle hands down. I read The King of Bourbon Street last month and absolutely loved it. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series and anything else that Thea De Salle writes!

Newest fictional crush

Ryan “Renegade” Kepler. I mean, that cover though😍 also he was just the perfect guy.

Newest favorite character

Simon from Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda. He’s just so adorable and lovable.

Book that made you cry

Um, I’m not really a crier at books so I don’t think that I have an answer for this one.

Book that made you happy

I loved this graphic novel so much! It definitely made me happy and if you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend it!

Favorite book to film adaptation

I think I have two for this answer but the first is for sure Big Little Lies.

And I know I had Love, Simon for another answer but this is one of my favorite book to film adaptations as well.

Favorite post you’ve done this year

Hmmm. I feel like I’ve had a few that I really liked and thought that I did really well on them. I think my Unpopular Bookish Opinions was my favorite, though.

Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year

Honestly, I’ve bought a lot of beautiful covers this year but I think I’ll go with The Smell of Other People’s Houses as the most beautiful of the year.

What book do you need to read by the end of the year

I don’t really have an answer for this one either because I don’t really put a timeline on my books. I just get to them when I get to them. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Well, that’s all for the Mid Year Book Freakout Tag! Happy Sunday and Happy Father’s Day, if you celebrate. I hope you all have a good week!

The Currently Reading Tag

Hi friends! I saw this tag post on Musings of a Book Girl and it was created by Charly Reynhorse. Alright, let’s go!

How many books do you usually read at once?

I’m usually reading between 2 – 4 book at once. Most of the time it’s 3, but sometimes I’ll try to do 4. I usually fail miserably when I try that but πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ. I usually have a novel and an audiobook that I’m reading at once, then sometimes I’ll throw in a graphic novel or manga to mix it up. If I’m really ambitious, I will through in an ebook, as well. As I said, it usually doesn’t work out for me, but I give it a try here and there.

How do you decide when to switch between multiple reads?

Well, if I have an audiobook and another novel (whether ebook or physical) that I’m reading at once, I will read the book when I have time to sit and focus on the story. I will listen to the audiobook while I’m doing other things like chores.

Do you ever switch bookmarks partway through a book?

Usually not. The only time I will is if I accidentally misplace it somehow.

Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… Everywhere. All over my house. I have one bookshelf in my house but I literally have books strewn from one end to the other.

What time of day do you read the most?

Probably at night when my three children are in bed for the night. It’s nice and quiet (except for whatever my husband is doing) and I can relax and enjoy my book.

How long do you typically read in one session?

It’s sooo different all the time. Sometimes, it’s for 30 minutes and other times I will get to read for a few hours in one session. I don’t really have a definitive answer for this one. It just varies from day to day.

Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket off?

Yes. I don’t want to ruin it by wrinkling/accidentally ripping/etc.

What position do you mainly use to read?

Sitting up. I like to sit on my couches and read. Usually, stretched out with my feet propped up.

Do you take your current read with you everywhere you go?

I guess it depends, really. If I’m reading an ebook or audiobook then yes but only because I don’t go anywhere without my phone. If I have a physical book that I’m reading. then typically I don’t. The only exception to that rule is if I know I will be away from home for a while and I think I will get bored.

How often do you update your Goodreads reading progress?

Not much. I will update for a physical book if I see a quote that I like. Then, I will put that quote in the update with my progress. That’s the only time I update, for physical books. I’m inconsistent with updates for any other format.

And that’s all for this tag. I’m not tagging anyone but if you see this and want to do it then go right ahead.
