Most Disappointing Books of 2019 – Blogmas Day 18

Hi friends! Let’s talk about the biggest let downs of the year, shall we? The hype was real for these books and they just did not live up to the hype, for me. *Fair warning: I’m feeling a bit snarky today. Aka you’re faves might get roasted.*

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Judging by the reviews on Goodreads this is quite possibly the most controversial book on this entire list, but are we just not going to talk about how this book was predictable af? Like, I guessed the ending at around sixty percent and I’m annoyed that I wasted 8+ hours listening to this hoping for something to surprise me. That just was not the case. Also, snooze fest up until the very end.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

This is maybe the second, maybe first, I don’t know, most controversial pick on this list. *deep sigh* Ya’ll I wanted to love this. I really did. I mean, that cover! 😍 Unfortunately, this one just didn’t do it for me. This was like a weird mix of awkward and boring with a sprinkle of fury at the end. Honestly though, the conflict at the end, like, why?

Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris

The main character, Grace, is whiny and insufferable. Her husband, Jack, is like a cartoony villain. The ending was absolutely ridiculous. *record scratch* I’m sensing a theme here.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

YA novels for me, as a whole, or really hit or miss. Unfortunately, this one was a miss. I did not get the hype. I guess I just didn’t connect with this and, ultimately, I was bored throughout the majority of this one.

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

I’ll be honest, this was a cover buy. Sadly, the contents just didn’t live up to this gorgeous cover. I wanted to love this book. Like I really REALLY wanted to love this book. One, this book, and books like it are, why I hesitate so much to pick up books that aren’t stand-alones. Second, I never felt tension or anticipation for something, anything to come, there was pretty much no action and I felt no connection to the characters. This book just dragged on and on. I was soo so bored. Ultimately, it just fell flat. Again, predictable ending.
