Friday Favorites: Diverse books

Hello friends! Happy Friday! I hope you all had a good week.

Friday Favorites hosted by Kibby at Something of the Book! This is a weekly meme hosted every Friday where you can show off your favorites (or least favorites) based on her weekly prompts. Go on over to her page to see the rules and prompts.

This weeks prompt is diverse reads.

For this prompt I will be talking about six books today and I have mentioned everything from memoirs to anthologies to sci-fi. There are some on this list that I have read and some that I have not but I’m real excited to! Let’s jump right in!

A Thousand Beginnings and Endings is an anthology of stories about the folklore and mythology of East and South Asia. I’m currently reading this for the Asianreadathon that is happening this month and I am thoroughly enjoying this!

.The Prince and the Dressmaker is an adorable graphic novel and I love this so much! Now, I went into this completely blind and I kind of think it’s better that way. Don’t read the summary just read this graphic novel and love it as much as I do.

We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson

If you’ve read this, then you know. If you haven’t, then I’ll give you a brief synopsis. Henry Denton’s life is hell. His family is struggling financially, his brother is a real asshole, his grandma is suffering with Alzheimer’s and his “boyfriend” is bullying him and he’s dealing with the aftermath of his last boyfriend’s suicide. But wait, there’s more, he gets abducted by aliens and he has the power to stop the world from ending. 🤯 I love this book, too. It’s so good!

(TW: suicide, depression, bullying, attempted sexual assault)

Ok, those are some of the diverse books that I have read. Now, let’s get into a few that are some of my most anticipated!

Missing, Presumed Dead is a book about a queer paranormal/mystery that takes place in our everyday world. This book sounds sooo good!

(TW: for depression, loneliness, suicide and traumatic deaths (including domestic violence), psychiatric hold )

Graham's delicacies by Em Ali

Let me just tell ya’ll the first line of the synopsis on goodreads.

Six people and three love stories all in one bakery.

Now doesn’t that just sound like the cutest thing ever and the perfect summer read?! If you’re looking for the perfect summer romance read, I think this takes the cake. (😂 sorry, not sorry, about the dad joke.)

The Pretty One by Keah Brown

I’ll give you the last line of the synopsis from goodreads for this book.

By “smashing stigmas, empowering her community, and celebrating herself” (Teen Vogue), Brown and The Pretty One aims to expand the conversation about disability and inspire self-love for people of all backgrounds.

This book sounds so inspiring and insightful. I’m really excited to check this one out!

That’s all of my choices for today’s Friday Favorites. I hope you all have a good weekend!

What do you think of my list? Will you be checking any of these books out? What are your favorite diverse book picks?
